Overview
As a security measure, Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) periodically checks to ensure individuals using our systems continue to have access to the email account used when creating their Bluetooth user account.
Timeline
Periodic email verification occurs each year in the early spring.
Who is impacted
Anyone with a Bluetooth SIG user account must verify their email address. This includes:
- All user accounts for all member companies
- Board of Directors
- SIG staff
Process
Users are given a 30-day window to verify their email addresses. Any time a user logs in to bluetooth.com or its supporting tools during the 30-day window, they will be asked to complete the verification by entering a unique, 6-digit code, which is sent to them in an email triggered by their login. At this time, the user can either enter their code to complete the verification or skip the verification and continue to their destination. If they choose to skip the verification, they will be shown the same verification screen the next time they log in (if they are still within the 30-day window).
Users can check their verification status at any time during the verification window by visiting welcome.bluetooth.com, where they will see a notification informing them of their status.
Note: Atlassian tools such as Confluence and Jira will not prompt email verification. You must log in to Bluetooth SIG-owned tools.
Verification code
When a user who needs to verify their email address logs in to bluetooth.com, an email containing a unique, 6-digit verification code is sent to the email address associated with their user account. Users may request for the code to be re-sent to them from the verification screen. A user’s verification code remains the same for the duration of the 30-day verification window.
Reminder emails
Each individual user will be sent an email at the start of the 30-day verification window. This email informs them that they need to verify their email address, how to verify, and what happens if they do not verify within the 30 days. We send reminder emails 20 days, 10 days, and 2 days prior to the 30-day email verification window expiring.
Consequence for not verifying on time
If a user does not verify their email address within the 30-day verification window, their user account will be deactivated and they will be removed from any working groups. The user will receive an email from us notifying them of their account deactivation. To recover their account, the user needs to log in to bluetooth.com where they will be prompted to verify their email with a 6-digit code. Upon reactivation of their user account, the user will need to manually re-join any working groups.
