[Retired] How to Upgrade Your Existing Qualification to the latest version of the Bluetooth® Core Specification via the Qualification Upgrade Program?

The Qualification Upgrade Program (QUP) helps members upgrade their eligible, existing qualification to the latest version of the Bluetooth specification and helps notify downstream members they may reference or integrate the upgraded qualification. Note that the program is currently limited to the Bluetooth core specification only. Members that meet the eligibility criteria below can upgrade their existing qualification by updating existing features to meet the current requirements of the latest core specification and completing any tests that have been changed or added since the original qualification. If the changes to the original qualification are only to implement the current requirements of the latest specification and no features are added or removed, members may upgrade and no fees are required.

Eligibility Criteria

  • You must be a Bluetooth SIG member in good standing.
  • The upgrade request must be submitted by the user currently listed in Bluetooth Launch Studio as the “Declared by” user (i.e., the original submitter or the successor of the original if transferred).
  • The upgrade request must include the Declaration ID (DID) of the qualification proposed to be upgraded (the “Existing Qualification”).
  • No upgrades must have been made to the Existing Qualification.  (It is acceptable if the Existing Qualification was created by upgrading a prior qualification.)
  • The Existing Qualification must have been submitted on or after February 1, 2007.
  • The Existing Qualification must be based on version 2.0 or later (but not the latest version) of the core specification.
  • The Existing Qualification must not implement any deprecated or withdrawn Profile, Protocol, Service, or Model specifications. (The program may in the future support qualifications that implement deprecated or withdrawn Profile, Protocol, Service, or Model specifications.)
  • If the Existing Qualification integrates or references any QDIDs that do not implement the latest version of the core specification then, first, those QDIDs must be upgraded to the latest version of the core specification and you must integrate or reference the upgraded QDIDs in your upgrade request.
  • The test plan submitted in the Existing Qualification was completed and no test evidence is missing.

Please note that once the Existing Qualification is upgraded through the QUP you may not reference or integrate the Existing Qualification in any new qualifications or add new products to the Existing Qualification. If you want to retain the ability to reference or integrate or add new products to the Existing Qualification, do not upgrade your Existing Qualification through the QUP. Instead, qualify your product through the standard Bluetooth qualification process.

Submit a Qualification for Qualification Upgrade Program

  1. If you meet the eligibility criteria, you may create a new Launch Studio project for the proposed qualification upgrade.  Use the applicable step-by-step guide below for help upgrading your Existing Qualification to the current requirements of the latest core specification and identifying any new test cases that you are required to complete.
    • Step-by-step guide for qualification type:
      • Qualification with Required Testing - Use this guide for help upgrading your qualification to the latest version of the core specification when you have upgraded your product to the latest version and your Existing Qualification required testing.
      • Qualification with No Required Testing - Use this guide for help upgrading your qualification to the latest version of the core specification when you have upgraded your product to the latest version and your Existing Qualification only references a QDID that has already been upgraded to the latest version.
  2. After creating and preparing a new Launch Studio project that complies with all applicable criteria above, proceed to the “Product Declaration” tab and complete the relevant information.  Select the current date as the “Listing Date” for your new project.
  3. Proceed to the “Review & Submit” tab and submit the project without assigning a Declaration ID (DID).
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to request the upgrade.
  5. SIG staff will review your upgrade request and notify you if it is approved or rejected.

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) Board of Directors has decided to discontinue the Qualification Upgrade Program (QUP) effective 8 January 2021. Please keep this date in mind if you are interested in the program. Any QUP qualifications must be submitted prior to 8 January 2021.
